Our scheduled program speaker cancelled the previously announced presentation and thus we will have an open meeting during which time we hope that the web site adminitrator will be given the opportunity to finally introduce features of our web site to the membership.  The membership has been deprived and will continue to be deprived of  the opportunity of learning about the many valuable, helpful, indispensable and time saving features of our web site if such an opportnity is squandered once again.

Past President Maureen called the meeting to order at 12:20 P.M. and then lead the assembled Rotarians and guests in the recital of the Pledge of Allegiance.  Rotarian PP Peter delivered the Invocation.   Our program speaker was introduced immediately thereafter.

Attending Physician Speaks about Winthrop Urgent Care Center
by Althea Robinson

At the July 25 meeting of the Rotary Club of Mineola-Garden, members and guests learned about the Winthrop-University Hospital Medical Affiliates Urgent Care Center (UCC) which opened its doors in June of 2014.  Guest speaker, Dr. Jamie-Yedowitz-Freeman, attending physician Winthrop Internal Medicine Associates and Winthrop Urgent Care spoke of the purpose and benefits of services provided by the UCC and fielded a myriad of questions from Club members.

Seeking treatment at the UCC preludes long wait times experienced at the hospitals' Emergency Rooms.  Dr. Yedowitz-Freeman said that about sixty per cent of patients are in and out in about one-half hour.  Winthrop’s Urgent Care Center combines the convenience of walk-in, no appointment necessary healthcare with the confidence of having an entire team of board certified Winthrop physicians providing needed care for most all medical problems.  When further care is needed, Winthrop-University Hospital is just steps away.
In the first four months after its opening, the new Center reached more than 2,000 walk-in visits.  Now, two years later, the center sees approximately 140 patients per week totaling up to more than 7,200 patients per year.
Located at the 222 Station Plaza Building, Suite 110, Mineola (facing the Mineola LIRR train station), the Center provides free valet parking adjacent to the Center.  For current hours of operation or more information, please call 516-663-1111 or visit Winthrop.org.
Our Rotary Club of Mineola-Garden City meets on the second and fourth Mondays of every month (except on holidays) at the Garden City Hotel, 12:15-1:30.  For information about Rotary and how to become a member of the Club, please call Susan MacDonald, president, at 515-643-5286; or visit our Club web site at www.rcmgc.org or www.RotaryClubMineola-GardenCity.org
