Back by popular demand is and do not miss the return of the legendary storyteller, Bob Kaliban who will entertain members and guests of the Rotary Club of Mineola-Garden City at its bi-monthly meeting  next Monday, August 22 at the Garden City Hotel, 12:15-1:30 p.m.  Bob regaled Club members with his unique“show-biz” experiences a few years ago and we are thrilled to host him as speaker once again.
Bob Kaliban is known for various roles on the CBS Radio Mystery Theatre from 1974 to 1982.  His roles in various movies are also well remembered.  No one will forget Bob’s role as the “Tidy Bowl Man” on television commercials back in the 1970s.

President Susan called the meeting to order at 12:15 P.M. and then lead the assembled Rotarians and guests in the recital of the Pledge of Allegiance.  Rotarian Rev. Michael delivered the Invocation.   Our program speaker was introduced immediately thereafter.

New Member Inducted and Holiday Luncheon News Plus Membership Benefits
by Althea

On Monday, August 8, the Club members welcomed new member Peter A., a Garden City resident into the Club.  Peter has been a resident of Garden City with his wife and two children for seventeen years.  Peter works locally in the Private Client Group for Stifel as a financial advisor.
Traditionally, the Club provides a variety of speakers offering informative and educational topics.  However, from time to time, such as on August 8, open meetings are held to induct new members and conduct other business matters as they may arise.
At the meeting on August 8, IPP Emily, who will chair the Club’s annual Holiday Fellowjhip Luncheon on December 12 at the Garden City Hotel, spoke of plans in motion to make this year’s event one of the best and most festive events of the 2016 Holiday Season.  Emily encouraged everyone to save the date of December 12.  The luncheon, open to the public, will feature Garden City High School’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble performing a medley of spirited holiday tunes.  Directed by Amanda, this renowned choral group has performed for both Rotary and for the Village Holiday Tree Lighting for many years. Part of the proceeds from the event will benefit RotaCare, which the Club created in 1992 and which provides free health care for those in need.

Also at this meeting, Rotarian Thomas, Past Club President and Past District Governor, who also inducted Peter A. into the Club, spoke about the benefits of membership in Rotary, the world’s largest service organization whose theme is “Service Before Self.”   IPP and PDG Thomas talked of the welcoming, camaraderie and also assistance, if needed, that fellow Rotarians may expect to receive when visiting other Rotary Clubs  in other towns, states and at area clubs around the world.
