ROTARIANS HEAR ABOUT THE ROTARY FOUNDATION
by Rotarian Althea Robinson, April 8, 2016

At the March 28 meeting of the Rotary Club of Mineola-Garden City, members heard Rotarian and a Past District Governor George Solomon speak about the Rotary Foundation and of Rotary International.  The mission of the Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world under- standing, goodwill and peace through the improvement of heath, the support of education and the alleviation of poverty.

George presented a video demonstrating how the Club had donated and assisted toward improvements in the various water, health and school projects in Haiti.  He also spoke about the Club’s participation with the Rotary Foundation and how its donated funds actually come back to Long Island – specifically to RotaCare, veterans and various district projects.

Among George Solomon’s myriad honors were Rotary International’s “Service Above Self” Award, the highest award a Rotarian can receive with only one hundred fifty honorees worldwide; and the Citation for Meritorious Service from the Rotary Foundation.
